Difference
The Undergraduate Education & Administration (UE&A) Section invites the submission of competitive papers, panels, roundtable discussions, and innovative programming for the 2018 CSCA convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The purpose of the Undergraduate Education & Administration Section is UE&A is to promote collaboration and highlight the efforts of teachers, scholars, and administrators interested in academic institutions serving students at the undergraduate level. The goal of the UE&A is to develop a strong network among its members to engage on topics related to curriculum/programming, pedagogy, scholarly relationships, and academic organizations within an undergraduate-focused disciplinary program related to Communication. The section is open to any and all CSCA members interested in undergraduate programs and membership does not count as one of your three interest groups. You may be a section member in addition to any of the interest groups to which you already belong.
Any topics related to issues facing undergraduate institutions are welcome. We are especially looking for papers and panels that support the conference theme of Difference and that seek to engage innovative or “different” approaches to presentation of material. We welcome panels and papers that integrate both education and administration and the concerns of both, panels that address how our undergraduate institutions are able to face currently challenges in higher education, and ways in which this new section can be of best service to our CSCA constituents.
Papers: Only completed papers will be accepted. Papers must include a title and a brief abstract. Graduate and undergraduate students should type “STUDENT” on the upper right-hand corner of the title page. If the paper will be a graduate student debut, please type “DEBUT STUDENT” on the upper right-hand corner of the title page. To be considered a graduate student debut paper, (1) the author must be a graduate student, (2) the paper must have single authorship, and (3) the paper must be the author’s first paper to be presented at CSCA. Indicate if author(s) are CSCA members. Author names and any identifying information must be removed prior to submission. A Competitive Paper Submission Form must be submitted along with the paper. This form is located on the CSCA website: http://www.csca-net.org/.
Panels: UE&A welcomes debut panels, Paper Panels, Discussion Panel, and Debate Panels. We especially favor panels that represent diverse institutions and diverse types of educational institutions and educators/administrators. Spotlight panels highlighting particularly unique or successful undergraduate programming would also be welcome.
Discussion and paper panel submissions must include the following: (a) title, (b) description (75 words or less), (c) rationale (75 words or less), and (d) a complete list of participants along with their institutional affiliations, contact information (address, e-mail, and telephone), and whether they are CSCA Members. Paper panels should also include titles and brief abstracts (100 words or less) for each paper. A Discussion Panel Submission Form or Paper Panel Submission Form must be submitted as a separate attachment along with the panel. Discussion panels and paper panels must be submitted using the respective forms located on the CSCA website: http://www.csca-net.org/.
All submissions should be done so electronically using Microsoft Word. Submissions sent using any other format will be returned to the sender. An e-mail acknowledging receipt of paper and panel proposals will be sent for each submission.
All media requests must be made at the time of submission. Please only request media if it is absolutely essential to your presentation, as media requests will be closely examined before approval. Laptop computers will not be made available for presentations.
Submissions must be received by October 9, 2017.
