“Inspire”
The Undergraduate Education & Administration (UE&A) Section invites submissions of competitive papers, panels, roundtable discussions, and innovative programming for the 2021 CSCA convention in Cincinnati, Ohio. The purpose of the Undergraduate Education & Administration Section is to promote collaboration and highlight efforts of teachers, scholars, and administrators interested in academic institutions serving students at the undergraduate level. Our goal is to develop a strong network amongst our members to engage on topics related to curriculum/programming, pedagogy, scholarly relationships, and academic organizations within an undergraduate-focused disciplinary program related to Communication. The section is open to all CSCA members interested in undergraduate programs. Membership does not count as one of your three interest groups. You may be a section member in addition to any of the interest groups to which you already belong.
Any topics related to issues facing undergraduate institutions are welcome. We are especially looking for papers and panels that support the conference theme of Inspire and that seek to engage innovative or “different” approaches to presentation of material. We welcome panels and papers that integrate both education and administration and the concerns of both, panels that address how our undergraduate institutions are able to face current challenges in higher education, and ways in which this section can best serve our CSCA constituents. Right now is a time of great uncertainty with the COVID19 pandemic and racial tensions in our country. How can we come together to navigate the significant challenges before us?
Papers: Only completed papers will be accepted. Papers must include a title and a brief abstract. Graduate students should type “STUDENT” on the upper right-hand corner of the title page. If the paper will be a graduate student debut, please type “DEBUT STUDENT” on the upper right-hand corner of the title page. To be considered a graduate student debut paper, (1) the author must be a graduate student, (2) the paper must have single authorship, and (3) the paper must be the author’s first paper to be presented at CSCA. Indicate if author(s) are CSCA members. Author names and any identifying information must be removed prior to submission.
Panels: We welcome Debut Panels, Paper Panels, Discussion Panels, and Debate Panels. We especially favor panels that represent diverse institutions and diverse types of educational institutions and educators/administrators. Spotlight panels highlighting particularly unique or successful undergraduate programming would also be welcome.
All panel submissions must include the following: (a) title, (b) description (75 words or less), (c) rationale (75 words or less), and (d) a complete list of participants along with their institutional affiliations, contact information (address, e-mail, and telephone), and whether they are CSCA members. Paper panels should also include titles and brief abstracts (100 words or less) for each paper.
All technology requests must be made at the time of submission. Please only request technology if it is absolutely essential to your presentation, as those requests will be closely examined before approval. Laptop computers will not be made available for presentations.
All submissions must be sent electronically through the online system via the CSCA website. Submissions must be received by 11:59pm CDT on October 9, 2020.
All submitters are encouraged to create a profile on the CSCA convention webpage. This will help to facilitate the ease of the entire submission and notification process.
