CSCA Names Yuping Mao Next Editor of Communication Studies

Dear CSCA members:

I am pleased to announce that the CSCA Executive Committee has selected Dr. Yuping Mao as the next editor of Communication Studies. She will work closely with our current editor, Dr. Patric Spence, for the remainder of 2021, and officially transition to the position of editor on January 1, 2022. Yuping Mao (Ph.D., Ohio University) is Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at California State University, Long Beach. She has extensive working, living, and research experiences in China, the U.S., Canada, and the Netherlands. Her research focuses on communication and global health. Dr. Mao is passionate about applied research to promote cultural diversity and bridge health inequities in healthcare systems. She is particularly interested in health communication issues among migrant and underserved populations. She is the co-editor of two books: Culture, Migration, and Health Communication in A Global Context, and Handbook of Research on Citizen Engagement and Public Participation in the Era of New Media. She has served as the special issue editor in journals in communication and public health. She has published numerous book chapters, and her work also has been published in peer reviewed journals such as International Journal of Intercultural Relations, Journal of International and Intercultural Communication, Communication Research, Canadian Journal of Communication, Journal of Intercultural Communication Research, Journal of Substance Use, and Advances in Public Health.
