CSCA 2018 Convention - Call for Submissions - Argumentation and Forensics Interest Group

Argumentation and Forensics Interest Group
Call for Papers and Panels

2018 Central States Communication Association (CSCA)
Annual Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
April 4th-7th 2018
Difference

The Argumentation and Forensics Interest Group invites all members of CSCA to submit competitive papers, programs, and interactive panels to be considered for the 2018 CSCA conference to be held in Milwaukee. The theme for the 2018 conference is “Difference.” We welcome a range of topics, and we especially encourage members to develop provocative panels that focus upon the convention theme.

At the 2017 conference, we brainstormed several potential topics for submission. Potential submissions could include but are not limited to:

·      How do we present “difference” in forensics?

·      Teaching difference through the activity.

·      Coaching difference in experience/privilege.

·      How argumentation is taught in the curriculum/how issues of difference come up in the classroom.

·      Difference in the public sphere.

·      Master classes on the different types of forensic events.

·      Developing a team culture through difference.

·      Fields of Argument/Different approaches to claims and support.

Awards: The Argumentation and Forensic Interest group gives awards for the Top Paper, Top Graduate Student Paper, Top Panel Award (goes to the person who submitted the panel), and a Lifetime Award for Outstanding Contributions to Argumentation and Forensics at Central States Communication Association. The Top Paper Award winner will receive a plaque for their keeping.

Guidelines for Submission:

Papers: Individuals proposing papers must complete and use the 2018 CSCA Paper Proposal Request form on the CSCA website. Only completed papers will be accepted. Papers must conform to APA standards and include a title page that is a separate document from the paper, allowing author identity to be concealed. Remove all references made to the submitter in the body of the document. Students (including graduate students) should type “STUDENT” on the upper right-hand corner of the title page. If the paper is a graduate student debut paper, type “DEBUT STUDENT” on the upper right-hand corner of the title page. Indicate if author(s) is/are CSCA Members. “Student” papers are those authored only by the student. Faculty mentors/advisors may not appear an author on a “student” submission.

Panels: Individuals proposing panels must complete and use the 2018 CSCA Panel Proposal Request Form available on the CSCA website. Panel submissions must also include the following: (a) title, (b), abstract, and (c) a complete list of participants along with their institutional affiliations, contact information (address, e-mail, and telephone), and if they are CSCA Members. Preference will be given to panels with representatives from multiple institutions rather than representing a single institution.

All papers must be submitted electronically using Microsoft Word. Documents sent using any other format will be returned to the sender. An e-mail acknowledging receipt of paper and panel proposals will be sent for each submission. All technology requests must be made at the time of submission. Please only request media if it is essential to your presentation. If you require a laptop computer for your presentation, you must bring your own. Your submission implies that you agree to follow appropriate presentation rules if your paper/panel is accepted.

Submissions must be received by October 9th, 2017.

Submissions should be sent to:

Anthony Woodall, Northeastern State University, woodalla@nsuok.edu
