The Ethnicity, Race, International & Class Concerns (ERIC) Caucus invites the submission of competitive papers, panels, roundtable discussions, and innovative programming for the 2022 CSCA convention in Madison, Wisconsin. Each year the ERIC Caucus strives to offer programming that includes both cutting-edge research in the areas of race, ethnicity, class, and international-oriented topics; but also activist programming that seeks to address issues and advance causes related to the Caucus membership. The purpose of the Caucus is to support the interests of its members’ lives to address numerous issues related to identity concerns in all domains – personal, professional, private, and public.
The scope of the ERIC Caucus is broad as is the study of race, ethnicity, international, and class issues. We find the theme of the convention re-connect suitable invitation for members to critically examine new opportunities for re/connection especially in the post COVID-19 era. While it is true that COVID-19 has impacted us in different ways, it is also true that the pandemic simply exacerbated a situation which was already a lived experience among communities marginalized by ethnic identity, race, class, nationality, and geographical location.
The ERIC Caucus welcomes a range of topics that engage in scholarship about topical issues of ethnicity, race, class, nationality, citizenship status and their intersections. Submission that foreground ways to re/connect diverse communities in the United States and the international community are encouraged. Other areas of interest to ERIC members such as critical intercultural pedagogy, mentorship, social justice, conflict, peace, and globalization are welcome. We especially encourage members to address issues highlighting challenges of re-connecting in a highly contested political climate locally and globally, as well as offer best teaching practices, and propose new directions to foreground the voices of marginalized groups.
We welcome a variety of research, including interpretive, critical, and social scientific approaches, as well as papers that apply, extend, or develop theoretical approaches. In terms of panels, preference will be given to those with panelists representing multiple institutions rather than representing a single institution.
Awards: ERIC presents two awards with cash prizes: 1) top paper award and 2) top student paper award. The awards for top paper and top student paper will be recognized during the ERIC Business Meeting.
Guidelines for Submission
Papers may employ any methodology chosen by the author, including qualitative, quantitative, rhetorical, critical, grounded theory, etc. Paper length should be a maximum of 25 pages, excluding references, graphs, and illustrations. Submissions should include the title and a brief abstract. Author(s’) name(s), institutional affiliation, and any identifying information should be omitted. Student papers should contain the word STUDENT in the upper right corner of the title page and if this is a student’s first CSCA presentation, the term STUDENT DEBUT should be written in the upper right hand corner of the title page. Only completed papers and complete descriptions of creative/performance presentations will be considered.
Panels/Round Table Discussion should center on a common theme within the convention theme, explain the purpose of the panel/round table, as well as listing the names of all participants.
