COMMUNITY COLLEGE INTEREST GROUP
Call for Papers and Panels
Central States Communication Association (CSCA)
93rd Annual Convention – Grand Rapids, Michigan
April 2 – 7, 2024
Incoherence: Failures, Futures, and Forgotten Messages
The Community College Interest Group invites the submission of competitive papers, panels, roundtable discussions, and innovative programming for the 2024 CSCA convention in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The purpose of the Community College Interest Group is to deal with issues of general concern to members including the sharing of information on course development, teaching strategies and programs in the Community Colleges; promoting professional research-related instruction; encouraging co-curricular activities; and organizing panels and programs for the annual CSCA convention. Submissions that foreground the voices of underrepresented and marginalized groups especially welcome, and preference will be given to those panel submissions representing multiple institutions rather than representing a single institution.
A range of topics encompassing teaching and learning as well as discipline-related professional experiences at Community Colleges are welcome. We especially encourage members to reflect on issues related to the convention theme of Incoherence: Failure, Futures, and Forgotten Messages. Our lives are filled with moments of incoherence. Some segments of incoherence occur at the individual level, as we explore how shared meaning is missed. Other sites of incoherence come from systems and structures working to obfuscate our understanding of ourselves, our relational partners, our communities, and our organizations. Sometimes, as our theories tell us, incoherence can be beneficial, illuminating, or productive.
Panels: We strongly encourage discussion panels to include 4-7 individuals that would appeal to a broad audience of community college educators. These panels must include a chair to introduce the panelists and to moderate the discussion. Time for audience questions/ participation is encouraged. Please include all participating panelists, institutions, and specific topics when applicable. If technology is needed, specify the needs at the time of submission.
Papers: Only completed papers will be accepted.
Submissions must be received by 11:59 PM, CDT, Saturday, October 7, 2023.
Send submissions electronically through our online system via the CSCA website. Submitters should be certain that all potential presenters create a profile in the CSCA convention webpage as part of their submission. Membership in CSCA is not required to create a profile.
